We have been attending Houston Mennonite Church since 2021 and we love it. We were first drawn to it because we learned the Mennonite denomination is opposed to the death penalty, and we wanted to find a peace church. We also appreciate that HMC stands strongly against racism and police violence and is LGBT affirming. We like that it is a small church and we can get to know everyone, and we appreciate the traditional style of the hymns. Our little kids look forward to church every week and they have fun playing with their friends in kids’ church and on the playground. The church is very kid friendly and no one minds noisy kids in the service. It is a casual and friendly church and has frequent social events like potlucks. There’s a cute community vegetable garden and a nursery to sit in with fussy babies during the service. Another thing I like is that there’s no talk of Hell and lots of talk of how to make the world a better place. I recommend Houston Mennonite to anyone looking for a small traditional feeling church with progressive values and a close knit community.
