First, I would like to say that St. Vincent’s is an Anglican church affiliated with the Anglican Church in North America. Although the split was before my time, St. Vincent’s congregation broke with the Episcopal church. I have briefly studied the reasons, and I was satisfied with the reasons after my research. The description provided by this website is somewhat out of date. Secondly, I want to let any readers know that I was raised in a very traditional Southern Baptist church, but I transitioned into a Bible church where I remained for 30-odd years. By my 50s, the Bible churches available to me did not practice church discipline or hold members accountable for gross and flagrant sins and violations of scripture. Additionally, Bible churches had moved to nearly exclusive use of praise songs, which focused on the singers and with little focus on God. I visited several Baptist and Bible churches where those who were leading the praise service along with musicians and other staff/speakers had their names displayed on a video screen. I began to question whether we were meant to focus on God or the presenters. I am only interested in focusing on God. Finally, God kept me driving by St. Vincent’s Sunday after Sunday while I argued with Him (figuratively, not literally!) about attending a church with rituals that were foreign to me. When I finally attended a service, I knew I had come home. Everyone was friendly, the teachings were Biblical, and the focus was on worshiping God as the Trinity and our absolute hope both now and for eternity. While I recognize not everyone will want this type of worship service, if you want to be drawn to God, to the cross for salvation, and to a disciple’s life, St. Vincent’s is a place where those concepts and worship is a reality. The atmosphere inside the sanctuary is calm, peaceful, and most importantly, worshipful. People notice if you miss a service you traditionally attend and ask after you. During the COVID-19 quarantine, elderly members were contacted and provided with services as needed. As a highly at risk person who lives alone with no family nearby, I was grateful for this concern and care. This is the body of Christ similar to how it was evidenced in The Acts of the Apostles. I highly recommend St. Vincent’s.

Attendee Tips

Before the service, greeters are in the entryway. After the service, most of the church’s pastors are available in the same place. The vestibule also has some literature available for visitors. The church website is www.stvincentscathedral.org/
