Write a Review“This is from the Program Director”by Whitfield UMC
When I first came to work at Whitfield, I looked at the large amount of gray hair in the congregation and thought, "This is going to be a piece of cake." The past 5 years, these "older adults" have worked me to exhaustion - in a good way. This is a working, compassionate group of Christ's disciples. Since I've been here, our Children's Ministries has grown into a lively, knowledgeable, and fun group of children and families - all desiring to know and follow Christ. And, I don't say that just because I'm also the Children's Minister. We have a great time together, but we learn, share, and serve throughout the year. Our kids serve in Worship as acolytes, crucifers, communion stewards, through participation in the children's sermon, musical presentations, Children's Sabbath ~ in any and all ways. Our youth serve as ushers and engage in lively discussion in Sunday school and UMYF. Our adults are active in many service and fellowship programs within the church and the community. We have several on-going Bible studies, both long-term (20+ weeks) and short-term (6-12 weeks). We host Family Promise throughout the year, Upward Basketball in January/February, Good Samaritan Thanksgiving box distribution in November, Academy for Ministries with Children, and many other local ministry groups. And we have fun, too. We meet weekly for Fellowship Supper and programs on Wednesdays. Our Older Adults gather monthly for a restaurant luncheon (Prime Timers), and we have several home and restaurant Supper Clubs. We have Easter egg hunts, Christmas Caroling and special programs, Community Good Friday worship and lunch with local churches. As you can see, Whitfield Memorial UMC is an active, living Body of Christ. I hope you'll join us soon and see these things for yourself.
Attendee Tips
Our Worship Times (8:15 & 10:30) are broken by 9:15 AM Sunday School. Most adult classes (and youth) are held in the Sheppard Center (back of campus). Our Children's class is in the Education Building along with our staffed Nursery. Following Sunday School, you are invited to join us for a time of fellowship and food (we are Methodists, after all) in the Sheppard Center. There is ample parking around the campus. The Sanctuary is at the front of the campus facing Fisk Road. The church office is directly behind the Sanctuary. Greeters will be able to direct you to any and all of our facilities as you meet them in the Sanctuary's Narthex. You'll find a restroom there for your convenience. Take time to admire the beautiful stained glass windows in the Sanctuary. They bring together the Old and New Testaments, as well as representing each of Christ's apostles. The Rose Window honors the Gospels, and the Balcony panes depict the Life of Christ. Welcome to Whitfield.
